What is ChatGPT Pro, its Pricing, its Features, and its Models
There’s a new higher subscription tier for ChatGPT for professionals — and it’s expensive.
ChatGPT Pro will be priced at $200 per month, while its new reasoning model, “o1” (formerly “Strawberry”) and the company’s ever-expanding suite of models and AI tools, such as a new “pro” mode will be available for free to all users.
That is a big leap up in price, as ChatGPT’s regular version is currently $20 per month. Nonetheless, the company is keen to emphasize the broader array of features and options for customers.
Here’s everything you need to know about the ChatGPT Pro subscription service, and whether it’s worth making the plunge.
What is ChatGPT Pro?
ChatGPT now offers three separate versions – ChatGPT Free, ChatGPT Plus, and ChatGPT Pro – and two team versions, ChatGPT Team and ChatGPT Enterprise.
Free only includes access to GPT-3.5 and has restricted access to image generation, web browsing, and basic voice mode.
Full access to GPT-4, limited access to o1 and o1-mini models, faster processing speed, more reliability, and full access to the browser, image generation and advanced voice mode are all part of the Paid version, which costs $20 per month.
The more advanced o1 and o1-mini are restricted to 50 messages each per day.
The Pro tier, which costs $200 per month, provides access to GPT-4 along with other advanced models, along with faster response times, longer context windows, and advanced voice features.
In addition to GPT-4, ChatGPT Pro offers access to OpenAI’s “smartest” model, o1, which is “near unlimited,” and o1-mini and GPT-4o.
Additionally, it has a feature called o1 pro mode, which means that o1 thinks more with more compute power to deliver even better answers to the hardest problems, the company said in a blog post.

Reduce downtime and increase productivity
“More productivity capabilities with greater force and computation in the future are planned to be added to this plan.” It was said that access to o1 pro mode is limited in the pricing page.
“That model has a longer ‘thinking time’ for the most reliable responses,” OpenAI explained, but noted that: “Answer will take longer to generate, and ChatGPT will show a progress bar, and an in-app notification will come when switching to another conversation.
The Pro subscription will keep receiving more features, such as more file support, OpenAI said. The company also offered some speculations about “other subscribers” — presumably those using the lower-tier versions of ChatGPT — getting some of these features.
Who is this for?
ChatGPT Pro’s cost reveals plenty about its potential users – people who need the best, not just any other old text generation tool.
The Pro subscription, according to OpenAI, is for those who use research-grade intelligence, such as researchers, engineers, and “other individuals.
“In fact, the o1 pro mode outperforms even OpenAI’s newest model on math, science, and coding evaluation, and the company shared that external tests indicated that o1 pro mode was more reliable and comprehensive in data science, programming and case-law analysis compared with other versions of the model,” the company said.
That price tag isn’t the one everyone researcher who could benefit from ChatGPT Pro will be able to afford, however, so OpenAI is providing ten grants to medical researchers at American institutions.
But be warned that OpenAI has strict terms of use which prohibit sharing account credentials or access to anyone else, reselling access or using ChatGPT to power a third-party service, and abusive use, which includes automatically extracting data.
The firm has strong safeguards to detect this misuse.
Other tools, including Sora
In addition to the models, ChatGPT Pro will feature Advanced Voice, which was released earlier this year, after being disputed for its resemblance to actress Scarlett Johansson’s voice in the demo.
The ChatGPT Plus and Pro users will get access to ‘extended access’ of the newly launched Sora video generation system, which can generate videos from a text prompt. The video system was introduced by OpenAI for the first time in February.
In ChatGPT Plus, users will receive 50 priority videos each month, at a maximum resolution of 720p, meaning the speed at which they are created.
Meanwhile, Pro customers will be able to create 500 priority videos at up to 1080p resolution as well as unlimited “relaxed” videos, which can be downloaded without a watermark.
